“Boombox” is what a rap album should be: One MC. One Producer. And finally, a perfect balance between head-snapping beats and inspirational lyrics. Production on Boombox is done by fellow Boston rapper and producer Raydar Ellis, known for his critically lauded debut album “Late Pass”. One need only listen to understand Raheem Jamal’s songs are about life, love, struggle and strength.

“My record is about finding myself and achieving balance in life,” explains Jamal. “If someone can find something in themselves in my journey, that’s great.” Born and raised in Boston, Jamal has been an integral part of the city’s distinctive hip-hop scene for sometime. Most recently, he garnered critical acclaim as part of one of Beantown’s premier hip-hop groups Project Move, whose LP ‘Love Gone Wrong/Butterfly Theory’ was released last year. Jamal is also part of the group Electric Company, whose release ‘Life’s A Struggle’, was an underground hit and both releases were a cult favorites in Japan, Europe and France.

“From conscious heads to street heads,” says Jamal, “Boston has an amazing hip-hop scene with so many talented artists.” Born and raised in Boston, Raheem Jamal aka Radio Raheem (a name he got from the popular boombox carrying character of the same name in the movie ‘Do The Right Thing’), has toured extensively with both groups, opening for artists such as KRS-1, Jurassic 5, Talib Kweli, Digable Planets, Little Brother, Slum Village, Common, Pharoah Monch, CL Smooth, Jeru the Damaja, Special Ed, Royce Da 5’9, Big Daddy Kane, Edan & many more.
