The Funkytown Pros apparently tried to with some precision production and anti-capitalist bombs…”America’s so twisted/slit-wristed/I can’t see how you enlisted” from Satisfaction. Check the imagery. Made up of MC Boiwundah and producer Devastatin aka The Rhythm Fluctuator. They hailed from LA and were down with Def Jef which probably explains the heavy “east-coast” flava comin out from cali. Personally I think Boiwundah’s style fits better uptempo like the song “Fallin” but I guess stickin with one bpm wouldn’t make me a Funkytown Pro. Peace

FUNKYTOWN PRO’S ARE BY FAR THE MOST UNDER RECOGNIZED GROUP IN HIP HOP HISTORY. WUNDAH’S LYRICS ARE INCREDIBLE, HIS DELIVERY IS DOPE AS F@#K AND DEV’S BEATS ARE WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. IT’S NOT EAST COAST, IT’S REAL HIP HOP RATHER THAN THE LAME ASS UNORIGINAL G-FUNK SHIT THAT CAME OUT OF LA DURING THAT TIME. THERE WERE ALSO OTHER MC’S FROM FUNKYTOWN THAT SEEM TO HAVE NEVER HAD A RELEASE THAT WERE ON ANOTHER LEVEL AS WELL. H2BOSS WAS ANOTHER DOPE LYRICIST WITH ARGUABLY A BETTER DELIVERY THAN BOIWUNDAH’S. VERY SAD STORY THAT THEY WENT UNRECOGNIZED AND MAY THEY BE RESURRECTED FROM THE HIP HOP GRAVEYARD AND GET THE PROPS THEY DESERVE.
I still can’t get enough of “Reaching A Level Of Assassination”, Boiwundah def caught my attention on this album and also when he collaborated with Def Jef on the incredible “Soul Food”. It’s a shame that these guys weren’t recognized, had they come out just a couple of years later, I think that you would have heard Funkytown Pros mentioned alongside such groups of that era as Freestyle Fellowship and The Pharcyde.
I hear that Neb…. I still believe Freestyle Fellowship is super underrated.
