2005 already. Let’s take it back to 1995, Hayward BART yards chilin with my partner in crime Lukas. We used to spend days/nights bombing around town, writing rhymes, djing, riding the bus lines and hooking up with other writers/crews. The yards were our canvas, where we would practice our craft, with backpacks full of paint and a boombox. There was only a couple of albums that we played that year and this is one of them.

Enter D.Wyze and Evocalist aka The Brothas Unda Madness. They embodied the dopeness that was west coast hiphop thru the early/mid-90’s, following suite to cats like Souls of Mischief, Freestyle Fellowship and The Pharcyde amongst others. Their lyrical content consisted of all sorts of topics ranging from socio/political issues, daily life on the streets to spreading a positive message. It really set them apart from the normal stuff you were hearing coming out of Oakland at the time (The Luniz, Too Short..)

Several things I enjoy about it to this day is that, Just like us at the yards, It sounded like these guys had fun working on the album. The production team was second to none. You had heads like Fredwreck Nassar, Joe Quixx and King Tech commandeering the boards. What you have here is an ultra slept-on album.

As a New Years special, We give you 2 tracks from this album. Wreck Your Ears and Lyfe ‘N’ Tyme, which features a spectacular cameo from a then unknown Mystic.

I no longer live in Hayward and dont spend much time out there. I drove by around Christmas and was saddened to see that the yards no longer exist, having fallen victim to gentrification. So much for affordable housing.
